How Functional Medicine Can Help
Functional medicine is a comprehensive approach to medical care that addresses the underlying causes of disease, rather than chasing ‘Band-Aid’ solutions.
We do this through a systems-oriented approach that engages the patient and practitioner in a health care partnership.
By carefully evaluating the interactions between genetics, diet, hormones, toxin exposures, infections, sleep disorders and stress – we can understand how these interactions lead to the development of chronic disease.
This is done through medically sound diagnoses and management guidelines with no gimmicks or false promises.
Who Can Benefit From a Functional Medicine Protocol?
Functional medicine is an active, collaborative process between the patient and their physician.
My team and I use scientific & evidence based methods to treat clients who have chronic diseases, and also those who may have a genetic disposition to certain diseases.
Functional medicine works best for those who are invested in improving their health and are prepared to stick with their program over its full duration.
The Path To Wellness Program
This is a customised program for individuals who have been failed by ‘traditional’ medicine.
Your Functional Medicine protocol is based on specific symptoms, blood work results and other genetic and lifestyle factors.

Detailed Health Evaluation
We start with a two-hour consultation to establish what the protocol will be supporting you with, and to educate you on achieving and maintaining optimal health.
You will also be required to fill out an extensive questionnaire before the consultation.
This is to supply us with a complete history of your biochemical individuality, genetic, lifestyle and environmental causes.
History of triggers, toxin exposure, allergies, childhood nutrition and food habits, mental health issues, exercise habits and other such key factors can provide insights for the future global treatment approach.

Functional Laboratory Testing
Functional lab testing looks for changes in your body at the cellular level.
This allows us to determine what it is that is actually causing the symptoms you’re experiencing.
It also allows us to predict potential health issues that aren’t yet showing symptoms, and we can pro-actively manage your health to avoid them becoming a problem.
Once we get the results from your lab work, we then create your customised treatment plan.

Nutrition
Based on the results from the tests, we create for your customised dietary and supplement program.
Our nutrition recommendations will depend on food sensitivities, environmental toxins, nutrient deficiencies and other factors that have been uncovered at the cellular and genetic level.
You’ll be given a customised plan around your food, diet, nutraceuticals and supplements to address your nutritional needs.

Hormone Balancing
Some of your symptoms may be showing up as a result of hormonal imbalances.
By addressing any underlying nutritional imbalance, or food toxins, many of these hormonal imbalances will be rectified.
However, if you do require hormone replacement therapy, we use only the highest quality bioidentical hormones.
Bioidentical hormones are plant-based and closely resemble the chemical structure of our own natural hormones.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can Dr. Gopal be my primary care doctor?
No, I am a board-certified physician who practices Functional Medicine.
You must have a local primary care physician who can coordinate your care.
You’ll need to include the contact information for your local primary care physician on your application.
Do you take insurance?
No, I don’t accept insurance.
The insurance model allows for 7.5 minutes per patient, which is not enough time to deliver the superior quality of care that I am trained to provide.
It also causes unnecessary stress and burnout for me as a physician.
I need time to provide you with the care you seek, to review your lab results, and customize your personalised protocol.
Your health deserves my complete and undivided attention.
This makes my treatment program more expensive than others, but it’s the best approach for my clients and for my practice.
